happy cleaning

Cleaning and fun are two words that are rarely used in conjunction with one another. When asked, most people consider cleaning a chore. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. You can actually do something to make it something to look forward to. Here are 10 suggestions how:

  1. Get Things Done Faster With a List

You don’t want to spend all your time cleaning. Get things done faster by making a list of chores. Organize them into what can be finished immediately and what will take longer. Tackle easy ones first or delegate them to your kids (ex. picking up toys, putting clothes in the laundry basket).

  1. Get Into the Groove

Music can make anything better. Play your favorite music to get the energy up. Choose one with a fast tempo to get you moving faster.

  1. Consider It a Workout

Labor intensive chores like cleaning the bathroom will burn those calories effectively. So next time you’re doing chores, put on your fitness tracker, set a goal (ex. how many active minutes to hit or amount of calories to burn) and start moving.

  1. Turn It Into a Game

Teach your children how to do chores and get your house cleaned at the same time by turning housekeeping into a game. There are so many games you can play while picking up toys, cleaning the bedroom, or doing the laundry. For example, choose a color and have your kids put away items that have the same color.

  1. Race Against the Clock

Make cleaning more interesting by turning it into a race. You can challenge yourself to finish a chore before a song ends or start a contest wherein the first child to finish cleaning their room win. Of course, the winner should receive a prize.

  1. Decorate the Cleaning Bin

Turning cleaning bins into something cute or funny looking will make young ones more than willing to help. Put some googly eyes on the trashcan to change it into a cute monster. Or you can have them decorate their toy boxes.

  1. Mix in a Little Entertainment

Why not entertain yourself while cleaning? Turn on the TV and tune in to your favorite show. Surveys have shown that people can accomplish a lot during commercial breaks. You can also put on your newest audiobook and listen while doing the laundry.

  1. Catch Up While Cleaning Up

Catch up with friends and family while cleaning. Put them on speaker and update each other while washing the dishes. Invite friends over to help out with big tasks, like spring cleaning or packing. Even if they don’t help, just having someone to keep you company will be fun.

  1. Invest in Good Cleaning Gear

Cleaning is no fun if you’re working with broken cleaning products. Invest in a good vacuum, buy a good microfiber mop or stock up on sponges and microfiber cloths. There are also lots of cute and cool cleaning items that can be found online that you and your children would enjoy.

  1. Give Yourself a Reward

Cleaning your house or organizing your drawers is hard work, so make sure you reward yourself for doing it. Something as simple as ordering take-out instead of cooking or soaking in the tub for an hour will do you a world of good.
